Ghosts of West Point begins with a series of unrelated, paranormal events that make the incumbent commandant of cadets abandon his promising career to escape his quarters and West Point. Jonathan Souls, his successor, against his wishes, is forced to leave his combat command in Iraq to return to West Point to take a promotion to brigadier general and become commandant. He had pledged his senior year to never return to West Point because of the ghost he had witnessed beating three of his plebes in their barracks. That room, Room 4714, in the novel (and in real life; read some of the linked web sites) is barred to prevent entry. Ultimately, he knows that he’ll have no personal peace, nor will West Point, until he confronts that room and its supernatural denizens.
