Excerpts

"There are moments when, even to the sober eye of Reason, the world of our sad Humanity may assume the semblance of a Hell...."

--Edgar Allan Poe, former West Point cadet who failed to graduate
from "The Premature Burial"

Snapshot

A quarter century ago as a senior cadet, JONATHAN SOULS witnesses a scene so horrific that he suffers associative amnesia, and he pledges to never again return to West Point. 25 years later, as a Green Beret colonel fighting in Iraq, he battles not to become West Point's next commandant, but loses. As the Army's newest brigadier general, he must convince his peace activist wife to accompany him; he must work for a three star general whom he thinks hates him; and, he must ultimately face what exists behind the door to Room 4714 which has been barred shut since his dreadful incident his senior year.
